Two Queen of Angels Parish leaders were honored at the Archdiocesan Awards ceremony on Sunday, October 13 at Queen of All Saints Basilica. Dan and Dorothy Plovanich received the Christifideles Award, which honors laypersons for their parish service. Those who receive this award have demonstrated the values of the Papal Exhortation Christifideles Laici, which calls the laity to responsibility for the Church’s life springing from the mission of their Baptism.
Dorothy and Dan Plovanich are the parents of three adult sons. This couple has complementary gifts, and together they live the gospel in their family life, parish community, and daily work. Dorothy serves as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and a member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, while Dan serves as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and RCIA catechist. Dan’s commitment to adult faith formation and parish liturgy has led him to form both the Committee for the Spiritual Life and the Corpus Christi Committee, and many have benefited from his deep and wide theological study. Dorothy evangelizes by her example in the ER where she works as a nurse, and her calming presence calls others to follow Jesus.
