During the Covid-19 pandemic you must register to attend events at Queen of Angels Apostles Parish. This allows us to keep within our smaller seating capacity, plan for the needed volunteers, and be able to do contact tracing if someone who attended a service becomes ill from Covid-19. If you have not done so please download and read the “Tips for Worshipers” brochure in English or Spanish. This will help you know what to expect and how to act when you come to our church.
Please expect reduced seating capacity to allow for social distancing and adaptations to promote safer participation. Among these measures at Queen of Angels Church:
- Online reservation system. (You may also call the parish office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) Registration opens by Monday afternoon for Masses and Baptisms the following weekend. When we have sufficient volunteers, we will work up to having Masses with 15% to 20% of church capacity. If someone becomes ill with Covid-19, we need to inform anyone who may have been exposed.
- Personal protective equipment. Except for ministers actively speaking from the sanctuary, you must wear a mask at church. Use hand sanitizer when entering.
- Markings at church for social distancing. Greeters will lead you to a seat. The floor is marked with red tape to help you know where to go or where to stand in line if needed. The center aisle is one-way toward the altar and the side aisles are one-way toward the back. Some pews are roped off. There are spaces for couples and individuals on the left side of the church and for family groups to sit together on the right side.
- Changes to the liturgy. Enter only through the ramp doors, facing Sunnyside Ave. but closest to the alley. Other doors and windows are open during the Mass and fans are placed strategically to bring air through the church. Fans will not blow directly on the people, which could accelerate the spread of the virus from person to person. Singing by the congregation is not allowed for the same reason. There will be no collection by ushers at Masses; instead, you may drop your gift in a box in the gathering space. At Communion time, a greeter will cue you and direct you to use hand sanitizer. Wear your mask while receiving Communion in your hand, then step 6 feet to the side to adjust your mask and consume the Body of Christ, away from the minister.
A special thank you to the many volunteers that are giving their time to allow Queen of Apostles Parish to offer these Masses and Sacramental Services. We appreciate your patience as we work to safely operate our churches in a limited way during the Covid-19 pandemic.
