Lenten Food Drive

In the spirit of Lenten Sacrifice, please consider a donation to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. Donations will be gratefully accepted at Queen of Angels Church (table at the bottom of the inside stairs near the elevator) for 30 minutes before each weekend Mass through Sunday, March 21.  A reservation is needed only if you will stay for the Mass.

The people we serve are especially grateful for:

  • cooking oil
  • breakfast cereals
  • dishwashing soap
  • canned tomatoes
  • canned fruit
  • peanut butter (plastic jars only)
  • feminine napkins
  • toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • diapers
  • shampoo

We welcome checks and cash donations in the Poor Box (top of the main stairs in Queen of Angels Church) and contributions through GiveCentral. Your donations will purchase grocery store gift certificates that can be used for fresh foods and essentials such as toilet paper and cleaning supplies.

Some donated items will be used to help stock the Little Free Pantry located in front of St. Matthias Church and Rectory.

If you know of a family in need of assistance, please contact the Parish Office at 773-539-7510.

SVDP Reflects

March 7 – Third Sunday of Lent

In today’s Gospel Jesus is asked “What sign can you show us?” Every day we can see signs of how God has visited us in the blessings of our lives. Let us be a sign of God’s love by being a blessing to others.

Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (773-539-7510) so that together we can be a sign of God’s love to the suffering and poor.

Changes to Weekend Mass Schedule

Beginning on January 23-24, 2021:
Saturdays at 5 p.m. in English
Sundays at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in English
Domingos de las 1 p.m. en español (de 24 enero 2021)
All Masses at Queen of Angels Church worship site, 2330 W. Sunnyside Ave.

Starting with the weekend of January 23-24, 2021, all regular Masses for Queen of Angels and St. Matthias Parish will be celebrated at our Queen of Angels Church worship site, 2330 W. Sunnyside.  In order to allow us to worship together with low capacities at each Mass, there will be a new Mass schedule for during the next phase of the pandemic and our merger:

  • We will continue the 5 p.m. Mass in English on Saturday evening.
  • We will now have two Masses on Sunday morning in English, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Because we still need time to clean between Masses, the Mass in Spanish will need to move a half hour later, to 1 p.m.

This is a temporary schedule.  Capacity at these first Masses will be determined by the availability of volunteers.

Thank you for your understanding so that our new parish of Queen of Angels and St. Matthias can continue to grow together in faith and be light for others.  Please continue to pray for the unification of our parish community.

Dear Parishioners,
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and well.
In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, our primary concern is the spiritual and physical health and welfare of the faithful and all those who serve our parishes. We also recognize that we have a duty to care for those among us who are most vulnerable.
These dual concerns reflect everyone’s need for safety, while at the same time supporting those who need it most. While the financial circumstances of many families in our parish are uncertain, for those who are able we ask for your support of our Church. The Annual Catholic Appeal launches this weekend, and since our services are limited in the number who gather in person, there is an online giving option at annualcatholicappeal.com.
While challenging days remain, we also recognize this opportunity to be truly present to one another and care for those who are struggling. May we continue to pray for all those affected by COVID-19, those who are caring for the sick and for each other.
Yours in Christ,
Monsignor Jim Kaczorowski

Estimados Feligreses,
