Our Thanksgiving Food Drive will have a few differences this year because of the pandemic.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to continue to feed local families in need this Fall while providing more gift cards and handling less food. Please consider giving online or by cash or check to the Poor Box at the top of the main stairs in Queen of Angels Church. Donations will offset the cost of gift cards provided to the 70 families in need who are served annually by this drive.
If you wish to give items rather than money, please consider donating a complete bag pre-packed with a variety of food & toiletries for a family. This reduces the amount of handling and repacking needed before a family can receive your donation. The families we serve are grateful for anything you give but we especially ask for bags with:
- canned food (vegetables, fruits, beans, soups, tuna, chicken)
- peanut butter and jelly (in plastic jars)
- cooking oil (corn, vegetable or olive oil)
- toiletries (toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo & conditioner, soap, dish soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent)
Opportunities for dropping off donations of food and other items at church are limited to:
- Coming for regular Masses, October 31 and November 1, 2, 7-8, and 14-15. Queen of Angels Church is open for select Masses and with advance reservations. Food should be brought to the table in the church basement hallway before going upstairs for Mass.
- Appointments during Religious Ed materials pick-up, November 15-20. Please register for a “Food Drive only” slot here unless you also need to pick up Religious Education materials.
The parish office remains closed to the public. Please do not leave food donations in front of the parish office doors at 4412 N. Western.
Your donation helps the poor in our neighborhood. They come from many different countries and many have Thanksgiving feasts that reflect their homelands. Providing them with everyday foods means they can stretch their budget for their holiday feast. Thank you!
Food will be distributed by appointment on Saturday, November 21. If you would like to receive food but have not already received a letter with an appointment time, please call our parish office in advance at 773-539-7510 to contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
